To speak of the Laura Otero Group is to speak of more than 100 years of history, of five generations of innovation, work and commitment to Extremadura, and of a family business that has been able to adapt to the changes of each era without losing its essence.

The group’s origins date back to 1901, with the construction of several flour mills in the region, including the one in Miajadas in 1902. In 1918, Antonio Otero Doblado acquired this mill, initiating a crucial period of consolidation. During the following decades, under the management of Eugenio Otero Riola, the facilities were expanded, and new mills and electrical distribution networks were incorporated in towns such as Escurial, Zorita, La Cumbre, Abertura, and Campo Lugar, forming the basis of what is now the group’s electricity supply.

In 1936, an agreement was signed with FEDOSA for the supply of hydroelectric power, modernizing the facilities and guaranteeing the stability of the service, which is now complemented by its own dual-supply networks in several towns. After the death of Mr. Eugenio Otero Riola in 1947, the company passed into the hands of his widow and, subsequently, to Ms. Laura Otero Parras in 1967, overcoming challenges such as the oil crisis of the 1970s thanks to the effort and commitment of her team.

In 1982, Eugenio Manzano Otero took over as CEO, ushering in a new era of modernization and investment. This involved consolidating electrical infrastructure, substations, high-voltage networks, and renewable energy projects, including a 2 MW photovoltaic plant in Escurial. During this period, the group also celebrated significant institutional milestones, such as its centenary in 2018, with a program of cultural and sporting activities reflecting its commitment to the community.
